Capture Their Innocence with a Bespoke Newborn Photography Session

They don't stay this little for long. Capture their innocence with a bespoke newborn photography session. Keep scrolling to find out what you can expect from a photoshoot with me, learn more about my photography style and discover how much it will cost. I've also got some frequently asked questions. But please do get in touch if you'd like to have a chat. I'd love to hear from you!

What to expect at a newborn photoshoot

Once you've booked your newborn photography session, we'll have a chat so I can find out a bit more about you and your family so that I can tailor your session to you.

I'll send you a guide with some tips for getting ready for your session and then we'll then pick the date, time and location. We'll also set a date for around two weeks after for you to view your images and order any artwork that you would like.

The session itself will be unrushed with plenty of time for changing nappies, feeding, or a quick outfit change. Whatever you need! As a guide most newborn sessions are done within 2 hours.

I understand that it can be slightly terrifying if you aren't used to being in front of the camera, so I aim to keep it relaxed and fun. Because that's how we'll capture the sweetest, unscripted moments.

My photography style

How would I describe my style? Natural, light-filled newborn photography. No plain white backgrounds here. No forced posing. I strive to capture natural images of you and your family. Most newborn shoots take place in home but we can venture outside for an outdoors newborn shoot. Wherever we go though, your images will look and feel like you. If that sounds like what you are looking for, then keep scrolling...

How does pricing work for a newborn photoshoot?

My pricing starts with a session fee, which is payable upfront, and covers everything up to and including the delivery of your online viewing gallery. For newborn photoshoots, this starts at £125. Once you've seen your photos you can choose which package you would like. These start at £250. I am a passionate believer that if you are investing in family photography you should be proudly displaying it around your home. So each package comes with a few prints to get you started. You can, if you wish, purchase more, or invest in a frame, a piece of wall art or a beautiful keepsake.

Newborn Photography

Choosing your newborn photographer is a big decision. I've answered some of the most common queries I get below but if there is anything else like you'd know please do give me a shout. I'd love to hear from you!

So where will my session be?

As a newborn photographer I cover areas in Surrey, Sussex and Kent. Newborn photography sessions can take place in home or in your garden, or at a location of your choice. If you need help choosing somewhere, just let me know. In home sessions are a good choice for those wanting a newborn photoshoot. The last thing you need when you have a new baby is to be rushing about trying to get to your appointment on time!

When is the best time to do it?

For newborn photography, well all babies are different but generally it is best to schedule the session during their first few weeks in this world. Then we can get the more sleepy, curled up, squishy shots. But you can book a newborn session up to 6 months though. After that a family photography session will be a better fit.

When should I book?

For newborn photography sessions, I recommend booking before your baby arrives, ideally around the time of your 20 week scan. I will book a provisional slot for you based on your due date which we can confirm once the baby has arrived. But you can book anytime, just drop me a line to check on availability.

What should we wear?

This bit stresses most people out a little! After you've booked I will send you some information on what you should wear. In the meantime you can check out my boards on Pinterest for some ideas. The general rule of thumb is this though - everyone in the photos should complement each other, but avoid anything too matchy matchy! For newborns and younger kids, it might be an idea to have a spare set of clothes on hand. Just in case.

What if the weather is rubbish?

Obviously if we are shooting in your home the weather doesn't matter. But if we are outside, well we are in England so let's face it, rubbish weather is a very real possibility! Blue skies and whispy clouds are of course lovely, but don't be put off by thicker cloud cover. Skies like these can make your photos really atmospheric. Whatever Mother Nature has in store for us, we can take a call the day before. If necessary we'll just reschedule for another time that's convenient for you.

How long will the session last?

There is no time limit but newborn photography sessions can generally be done in less than 2 hours but it very much depends on baby. I won't be clock watching so it takes as long as it takes and that's just fine!

What happens after?

I will go home and spend some time choosing the best photos to tell your story. When they are ready we will arranage a viewing time where you can see your online gallery. It will contain around 30 - 40 beautifully retouched images. This will typically take around 2 weeks. After you have had time to look through your gallery you can choose what you would like to purchase. I have digital collections and gorgeous artworks, because it would be a shame to let your investment exist only on your hardrive.

“Jo captured an incredible album of newborn photography for our son. As with many newborns, he was challenging during the shoot but Jo was patient, made wonderful suggestions and was able to change her plan with ease to capture an incredible selection of photos.”
