A Maternity Photoshoot in the Early Summer Sunshine
I met this lot recently for a maternity photoshoot in Surrey. They wanted to celebrate the imminent arrival of their much longed for second child, and to document their family of 3 before they become a family of 4.
ONE ON THE WAY
We made sure to snap some of the beautiful mum-to-be. I don't have any pregnancy photos of my own, except a mirror selfie, so I make sure I always get a few of the bump. Maternity photos are a lovely way to cherish what really is a magical time in a woman's life. Even if it doesn't always feel that magical!
FYI, the shot with the honeydew melon? Every week they sit together and read about how their baby is developing and how big they are. The week we shot this, the baby was the size of a... you guessed it, a honeydew melon :)
JUST THE TWO OF US
During a maternity photoshoot, I aim to get a mix of shots and those include some of just mum and dad by themselves. I love this one of the two of them. And so did they as I printed this for them in black and white.
THE WHOLE FAMILY
A family photoshoot obviously includes shots of the whole family. This is a big reason people often book a family photographer. Because often it is mum who takes the photos which means she's never in them! So I strive to get a variety of shots. Some of you all looking at the camera and smiling (the grandparents tend to like these ones!) and then some more natural candid photos the capture you as you really are.
A MOTHER'S LOVE
I'm passionate about getting mums in the photo. We never know what is around the corner and these are photos your children will cherish when they are all grown up and you are no longer around. Mums, you need to get in your family photos!
FATHER & SON
Let's not forget some fun with daddy!
AN AWESOME BIG-BROTHER-IN-WAITING
He's very excited about being a big brother and has affectionately named the baby Turnip. He loves fruit and veg you see. Not necessarily to eat, he just loves his fruit friends. So cute. An orchard was, therefore, the perfect choice of location for him for our family photoshoot. Sadly none of the fruit was quite ready but that didn't stop him loading mummy and daddy up with a bagful of tiny pears, apples and cherries! If you look carefully, you'll see evidence of this passion in many of the photos!
WHAT TO WEAR FOR A SUMMER MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT
Everybody worries about this! About what to wear to their summer maternity photoshoot. No need! Because I'll send you a custom session guide, tailored to the season, which is choc full of advice on what to wear for your family photos. You can also check out my <Pinterest board> for more inspiration on what you can wear for your summer outdoor family photoshoot.
As you can see from these photos though, you don't need to match, you just need to complement.
SOME KIND WORDS
"I cannot recommend Jo highly enough. We had a family photo shoot and the photos are beautiful, natural and joyful. Jo picked a beautiful outside location for us and it was a really fun and enjoyable morning. Jo was brilliant with our 4 year old son and her energy and calm nature enabled her to get some great photos of him. Jo is highly professional and very responsive to emails and questions that we have had. We will definitely be asking Jo to take more photos when the new addition to our family arrives soon!"
