This extended family photoshoot with 3 generations of the same family in Hastings in Sussex was so much fun.
It was booked to mark a lovely lady's 80th birthday but her children. Although if I hadn't been told it was her 80th I wouldn't have guessed! They booked a holiday home in Hastings for the weekend so she could celebrate with her 3 children, their other halves and her lovely grandchildren. Minus the eldest sadly who was busy at an induction day at Cambridge University no less where she'll be starting in September. How amazing is that?!
We had originally scheduled this Sussex family photoshoot for the Sunday but as the week wore on the weather forecast got worse and worse. Luckily we were able to switch it to the Saturday which remained dry and bright, but slightly overcast which is just perfect for an outdoor family photoshoot.
OUTDOOR FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT IN A LOVELY HASTINGS PARK
As a family photographer in Sussex part of my job is location scouting. As this family was holidaying in Hastings they didn't have any photoshoot locations in mind. So I found this lovely park, Alexandra Park, just a short car ride from where they were staying. We were luckily enough to have some blossom and magnolias on display.

IS ALEXANDRA PARK A GOOD LOCATION?
It certainly is. Alexandra Park is very picturesque and provides a diverse range of backdrops within a relatively small area. You can find open fields, wooded areas, flower beds and even a boating lake. This versatility allows for different moods and styles in your family photos.
If you have young children, Alexandra Park has designated play areas and playgrounds where they can have fun before or after the photoshoot. There's even a miniature railway! These areas can help keep your kids entertained and engaged, making it easier to capture natural and candid moments.
It's easily accessible, located near the center of Hastings. It has nearby parking and its accessibility means it's convenient for families with young children or elderly members. And although it is a popular park, it doesn't usually get too busy, especially during weekdays. This means we can likely find a nice quiet spot to shoot in without too many distractions or interruptions, allowing us to focus on capturing beautiful moments.
The park's beauty changes with the seasons, offering different colors and atmospheres throughout the year. Whether you prefer the vibrant colors of spring flowers, the lush greenery of summer, or the warm tones of autumn foliage, Alexandra Park can provide the perfect backdrop for your family photos.
