I've just delivered this lovely family their images from their recent family photography session in Surrey. The sun was shining but it was freezing. Although not as cold as it's been this week! Despite the cold though, the kids were just brilliant. And when they started to flag a little, a few minutes warming up in the car with mummy and daddy worked a treat.
Living on a farm gave them the perfect location for their family photography session. Right on their own doorstep! The surrounding land has some beautiful lakes which made a lovely wintery backdrop. It was a really personal setting. Not only because it is their family home, but because mum grew up there. So these photos of her family will mean even more to her.
If you're having a family photography session it's always nice to try and choose a location that means something to you. It could be your own home or your garden. Perhaps a park you all love.
PHOTOGRAPHING THE FAMILY OUTSIDE
This family wanted the session to be mostly about the children but with a few photos of them all. Here are a few of my personal favourites of them together.
At 3.5 years old, this little boy is full of life. And if he said 'cheeeeeeese' once he said it a thousand times! A natural in front of the camera. His little sister was just days away from her first birthday. Just as photogenic as her big brother, she was simply adorable.
And of course, we had to capture the magical sibling bond which was just lovely!
CHOOSING THE RIGHT OUTFITS FOR YOUR FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT
It's always a bit daunting trying to decide what to wear to a family photography session. This Surrey family got it spot on with their neutral, complimentary colour palette. There were no bold patterns. No visible branding and they avoided the dreaded matchy-matchy look. Making good choices about what you wear ensures your photos won't date.
